Pirates 5 gets delayed to 2016
Regrettably, Disney has pushed back the release date of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
to the summer of 2016 in order to make sure that the script is right.
Disney has moved off its summer 2015 release date with Pirates Of The Caribbean 5, and the studio is now looking to slot it for summer 2016. This will create some jockeying from other studios next summer – Pirates had been slated for a July 10 release and other studios steered clear of that date — but I’m told from insiders this is not a case where they are hoisting a distress flag.
Basically, the studio and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have an advanced outline from scribe Jeff Nathanson, who is writing. They have directors Joachim Roenning and Espen Sandberg, who did a great job with a modest budget on Kon-Tiki, but who are new to the big scale of a film like Pirates. The studio would have to get into production by February, which would mean prepping off the outline.
The decision was made that it wasn’t worth rushing until they are sure the script is right.
On pushing Pirates 5 back to 2016, Disney production president Sean Bailey states:
Like audiences around the globe, we have high expectations for Jack Sparrow’s next adventure and we want to have all the right elements in place. We’re not there yet and we want to make sure this project is everything these wonderful characters and of course the fans deserve.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES
This Is Infamous has learned from directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg the official title of the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film! It will be called Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. There is still no word as to what the plot of the film is – only that it will somehow be a standalone adventure while still tying in to the series’ mythology.
For fans of the theme park attraction, that title will ring a pretty familiar bell, although it’s far too soon to know what exactly that means for whatever story Jeff Nathanson has cooked up this time. When I asked if this would be a stand-alone adventure or tie into the overall mythology of the series, I was told both, so who knows what’s on deck…
What do you think of the title? I personally think it sounds a bit too close to Dead Man’s Chest, but I still love it since “Dead Men Tell No Tales” ties in so closely with pirates in general, along with the Disney ride.
